SAFE Center Research and Program Coordinator Sophie Aron was named Vice Chair of the Montgomery County Human Trafficking Prevention Committee last month, after 3 years of working closely with the committee. Ms. Aron joined the SAFE Center in 2019 after earning her Masters in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. In her role as Research and Program Coordinator, she has supported SAFE’s state and local task force work, in addition to conducting public health research and working on the Center’s Regional Navigator team to serve sex trafficking victims under age 25 in Prince George’s and Montgomery County.
The Committee, originally created as the Montgomery County Human Trafficking Task Force in 2014, seeks to increase understanding of human trafficking in Montgomery Country and to develop interagency coordination of strategies for response and prevention. The Committee has three sub committees: victim services, education and outreach, and legislative, the last of which Ms. Aron will now lead. The Committee’s goals include improving access to services for human trafficking victims, increasing prosecution of traffickers and the elimination of human trafficking in the county.
