SAFE Center Welcomes Legal Director

The SAFE Center welcomed Director of Legal Services, Alysha (Ali) Welsh, to the team this spring. Ali is responsible for leading, expanding and managing our legal services program, which provides comprehensive immigration representation for foreign national survivors of human trafficking, and crime victim rights advocacy for foreign national and US survivors.

Ali has extensive experience in immigration law, human rights advocacy, and legal services management. Most recently, she served as Managing Attorney of the Washington, D.C. office of Human Rights First, and supervised the organization’s legal services programs in Houston and Los Angeles at various times throughout her time with Human Rights First. She represented clients in high impact humanitarian immigration policy and advocacy related matters, and provided expert opinions in federal litigation and national media publications. As the Managing Attorney in the D.C. office, Ali was primarily responsible for the growth and management of the DC Office of Human Rights First’s pro bono legal representation program for indigent asylum seekers, supervising a team of attorneys that oversaw 400 cases representing clients from 80 countries.

Early in her career, Ali worked in the private sector, personally managing a caseload of several hundred family, humanitarian and business immigration cases. Ali holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Boston University and a JD from Suffolk University Law School.
